Watch Out!Nov 09, 2009 Sems to cause problems with Vista 64 bit. Don't load the software. It will take over your computer! I am somewhat disappointed. WD should have worked out more of the 64 bit problems.

Annoying low frequency humOct 25, 2009 I bought this drive to use with my iMac's time machine software. I must say it works just fine, setup was a breeze. I connected it and the mac recognized it right away and asked if I wanted to use it as a time machine device. From there on, it took care of everything. It's a good size drive these days and it looks pretty nice. The lights in front are elegant. The one thing that really gets on my nerves is the low frequency humming noise that comes and goes when the drive is active. It gets amplified in certain areas of my house and becomes really loud. Even working on the computer while it's on makes me uncomfortable (think of a loud bass that you hear in one of those cars but but a little softer and imagine that bass note gets held for a couple of minutes).

Stay away from this driveOct 03, 2009 I purchased the Western Digital My Book 1 TB USB drive from Amazon. It set up easily right out of the box and I used it as both a back-up drive and a storage space for video files that I make in my classroom. After only six months, the videos started skipping on playback. At first, I thought it was my video camera because it was four years old. But the drive did the same thing even with a borrowed video camera that was less than one year old. I transferred the files to another external drive and the same files that skipped worked fine. I contacted Western Digital to find out if it was a power issue or a faulty drive. They told me that, because I bought the drive from Amazon, the drive did not have a warranty with them and refused to help. The other external drive that I have is a firewire external from LaCie. Nothing beats internal drives, but if you are in the market for an external drive, get one from LaCie. I have never been more dissatisfied with a product's longevity or with a manufacturer's attitude than I was with this experience.

Best Drive everSep 28, 2009 Bought this a while back and it's been nothing but great, I didn't like the software installed on it nor the file system as I was going to use it as a backup drive for my pc and wanted a speedy drive I formatted it to NTFS and manually created my folders and backup up my data. The drive's on 98% now and I may just but myself a 2TB next time.

Will stop working and WD will shrugSep 17, 2009 Don't buy this product. It will stop working and WD will shrug and tell you to go to a Data Recovery company.
