UNIDEN BC- 246TOct 11, 2009
I am sure that this is a great scanner, but the manual is difficult to use and the results that I have gotten so far is by trial and error. I purchased the software immediately so that I could program it from my computer but the cable that was provided does not match up with the computer. I ordered the USB cable a month ago and still have not received it. So the software is useless to me at this time.

The product is great, but let me tell you something. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS SUPPLIER. THIS PRODUCT IS NOT AVAILABLE NEW AND THEY DO NOT TELL YOU UNTIL AFTER THE ORDER HAS BEEN PLACED. I had ordered this product less than 5 days ago, I got an email from customer support stating that they DO NOT have this product NEW. I kept reading and they had sent me some other sanner AUTOMATICALLY. They picked out another scanner, SHIPPED THE ITEM, and sent me an emailing saying that the item has shipped, but wait, it was some other scanner! DO NOT ORDER THIS ITEM FROM APEX SUPPLIERS. THEY DO NOT HAVE IT NEW.
WHO DOES BUSINESS LIKE THIS? THE CUSTOMER ORDERS AN ITEM, THEY SEND YOU AN EMAIL SAYING IT IS NOT AVAILABLE ANYMORE, THEY SEND YOU SOME OTHER SCANNER, SHIP IT, AND THEN TELL YOU WHAT IS GOING ON.
DO NOT ORDER THIS ITEM FROM APEX SUPPLIERS.

I do not recommend this hand held scanner to anyone who isn't skilled at programming with the use of a computer. This is a very complicated scanner using cutting edge technology. It's performence is awsome. Really a good scanner.It uses filing systems that are different than your run of the mill scanners. It definately has a learning curve with regards to programming is concerned.
Good Scanner except turns off?Jul 03, 2009
I like the scanner. But it keeps turning off maybe in one hour or less. So I have to turn off and back on.

This scanner was very easy to take out of the box, put the batteries in, input a frequency...and listen. It is a nice design and mostly user friendly. I am familiar with average scanning, this scanner also has the ability for trunked scanning, I am still learning but it should come easy with info from some good resources. I am a bit disappointed that the PC interface cable is a serial connector...because serial ports are no longer standard on most computers, but a USB cable is available for 30 bucks more. The scanner also came pre programmed with channels for some areas,but none of them applied to my location it will be a pain to delete them. Overall, a very good scanner with more bonuses than drawbacks.
