5Amazing Kettle Boils Water in 60 SecondsDec 06, 2009
This kettle is amazing. It boils water very quickly in less than 60 seconds. I use it on my breaks to make tea and hot chocolate between work. It works so well that I brought several for my relative as gift and they are extremely happy with it. Because it heats so fast, I also use it to boil the hot water for preparation to cook pasta.

It has 360 degree rotation cord and automatic shut off so I don't need to turn it on or off. The glass carafe and stainless steel body is very easy to clean and there is no plastic smell after two weeks. After using it for a long while, some water deposit shows up. I just add water, and let it boil. Take it out, add a cup of vinegar and let it sit for an hour. Then rinse out and add fresh water to boil. After that all the deposit are gone and clean as new.

It also has a wide base and easy to grip handle. The body is made of glass and not of plastic as other reviewer described.

It also has a attached plastic lid at top with wired filter. This lid must be closed to make auto shut off work.

The glass carafe body is wrapped around with stainless steel at bottom. The flat heating element is also stainless steel. It has a plastic heat sensor at the top of the pot that never touch the water.

1Plastic and Poorly MadeNov 30, 2009
The first kettle Amazon sent me lasted 10 months before the lever, when pushed down, no longer started the boiling process. Waterford Wedgwood, who made the kettle, replaced it with no questions asked, and sent me a mailing label with which to return the original. The second kettle lasted 6 months before the very same thing occurred, and again, Waterford sent me another mailing label. In the meantime, I discovered that what I had assumed was a glass kettle was indeed lexan... and I had been happily drinking gallons of tea, and making my baby's morning cereal thinking the boiled water was not contaminated with any chemicals that might leach from heated plastic. I had been duped.

Dr. Weil has done himself and consumers a grave disservice. Now I am in search of a truly healthy alternative to this electric water kettle. Any suggestions?

2Dr. Weil needs to re-look this kitchen item.Jul 10, 2008
I, too, bought this kettle thinking it was glass, only to find out it was plastic. Buy my biggest beef is, I can't hold onto it! The handle is too thick and the problem is compounded by the fact the handle is open-ended. I have carpal tunnel in my right hand and it's just too painful trying to hold onto this thing and pour. I can't imagine anyone with arthritis being able to use this pot comfortably either.

5Love it!Apr 19, 2008
I'm trying to drink more tea, so I thought this product would make it a bit easier. Usually, after I drink a cup, I want another about a 1/2 hour later. Rather than having to use the stove to boil the water, I now use this kettle. It's much faster than the stove, because the water is already warm from the last time. I am drinking much more tea because it's so convenient. I love the fact that the unit shuts itself off once the water boils. I recommend this product whole-heartedly.

1Beware of this misleading product!Mar 18, 2008
What a disappointment to see Dr Weil - who I have always respected as a health authority - put his name on such an inferior and misleading product as this. First of all, as another reviewer mentioned already, this product IS made in China, NOT Switzerland, as the name "Spring Switzerland" clearly was meant to imply! Secondly, the "transparent body" of this kettle is made out of Lexan - a plastic - and not glass. It is NOT healthy for boiling water to be in contact with any kind of plastic, especially a plastic made in China that could have all sorts of impurities in it! China is notorious for a lack of quality control and oversight of the manufacturers throughout its country. The fact that Dr Weil saw fit to put his name on a product that opted for using such inferior material and using the misleading manufacturer name of Spring Switzerland is very disheartening. If he is capable of doing this, what other corners has he cut on all his other products - especially his supplements? Are these made in China? Do they really have the amount of nutrients in them that are claimed? Do they have impurities in them? I am really disappointed to see that Dr Weil is willing to engage in such misleading advertising in order to make a buck.
