Excellent ReceptionNov 20, 2009 Have only used the monitor a little but so far its sound quality and range are excellent. We tried a Safety 1st Glow and Go because I wanted the convenience of a battery powered transmitter, but its sound quality was horrible, lots of fuzz, couldn't hear anything. The Sony is much, much better.
I have realized that having a battery powered transmitter may just be unrealistic...not enough power to get a good signal to the receiver.

What a great product!!!!!!!!!!Nov 18, 2009 At the beginning I wasnt sure about the product , then I read the reviews and decided to buy it and I have to tell you I made a good decision. The monitors are just great my flat is not big but I can even hear the birds singing (I live near a park)and of course I can hear my babys breathing and movement I dont live in the US so I was a bit scared, Thanks Sony for the great product and thanks Amazon for the great service.

Range alarm SO annoyingNov 11, 2009 THis monitor is fine but the range alarm goes off ALL OF THE TIME and I am only about 100 ft away. There is no way to turn it off and given we have it in our room at night to hear if the baby needs us, the range alarm is really really anooying and keeps waking us up. THis is even more annoying as the monitor is working even when it is flagging we are out of range. For this reason, I would not buy this and am off to find another monitor that does not have this feature.

A very good monitor!Oct 19, 2009 We have had this monitor since my daughter (now 28 months old) was only 6 months old. We had a First Years monitor before that that was pretty decent, but after only having it 6 months, the batteries exploded in it. Not sure if that was a First Years defect, or a battery defect, but we decided to go with this monitor instead based on good reviews.
First, if you have wireless, cell phones, neighbors... you're most likely going to get SOME static. So accept it and move on. We live in a townhome, so we definitely have close neighbors. We have wireless in our bedroom, and every night, I lay my Blackberry right down next to this monitor, and I only ocassionally have problems (VERY rare though). The main time that we have static problems is when my husband forgets it's in his pocket and goes into my daughters room. If you get the base and the receiver too close together, it goes berserk.
That being said, there are 27 different channels, so keep trying until you find one that works for you and doesn't give you a ton of static. There is most definitely going to be one that works.
We really like the voice activation feature. This is great when we are downstairs watching a movie, or outside, or doing chores. At night, I keep it on full time because the sudden voice activation (like say, if my daughter coughs) scares the living daylights out of me. :-) But the VA is great for daytime activities. The rechargable nature of the parent monitor is fantastic too. You don't have to be plugged in all the time to hear them.
I think for the money, and for the features, this is one of the best monitors you will find.
