This Rocks My WorldMar 22, 2009 My neice has a similar MP3 player like this one except it's the K5. To be honest, I can't tell the difference because both are AWESOME.
I like the fact that it has speakers that slide right out. I can also choose the types of sound I want as well as personalize the equalizer. With the 4 GB, I can have almost 900 songs and about 50 to 60 pictures.
If you're looking for a simple MP3 with great sound quality at a decent price, this is the one you want.

great concept falls shortMar 20, 2009 purchased this product for my wife to use for audio books based on all the reviews and built-in speakers. turned out the Samsung isn't supported by Audible for their audio books so the whole plan was a bust. Exchange between Samsung and Audible technical support was basically a finger pointing exercise as to why this device wasn't supported. Didn't want to waste any more time so returned the product.
Fabulous Cool MachineFeb 08, 2009 I had been searching half-heartedly for an upgrade replacement for an old generic mp3 player I had owned for several years. I wanted to stay below $150 to $200. I found some new features not previously available that I decided was what I wanted to add to my selection criteria. These were Bluetooth, WiFi, and support for audio-book files without conversion. I also wanted high quality FM radio, voice recording, camera, and wasn't so much interested in video or picture viewing, but would be a nice to have ... oh and throw in phone capability too. Well there are some choices that kind of fit most of those, but not for less than $200 that I could find.
Bluetooth & WiFi Connectivity:
==============================
I really believe these will be together in the next gen iSomething. Bluetooth headphones are great for getting rid of the wires that always seem to be in the way most of the time. I found a good set of Motorola ones. The WiFi capability of the iTouch is great for internet connectivity and steaming audio / radio / video. Very few players have WiFi however. Around the house it would be a cool thing to have ready at a moments notice. The iTouch doesn't have Bluetooth built-in, but one could add the bluetooth dongle for about $50 more. In the end, I decided the iTouch at $229 - $399 was more than I wanted to spend, and build-in Bluetooth was a more important feature than WiFi. None the less, having both WiFi and Bluetooth in the same device would be ideal.
Camera:
==============================
Cameras in players is not common for unknown reasons - I guess they want to sell cameras too. There are however a few with this, but it takes some digging to find them. Pro Ebiz is one of the few.
Reviewed Players:
iTouch, Creative Zen V, Sony Walkman, Samsung S3 & P2, iRiver, numerous others.
None of the players I reviewed provided for voice recording while listening to music, radio, podcasts, books, etc.. Every one of them required switching to recorder mode, which turns off the music. This is very disappointing since some of the best times for discussing philosophy, thoughts & conversation is while listening to music.
Pros:
Sound of the Samsung S5 is fabulous with the ear buds that came with it - of all of the ones I looked, played with, read reviews on, returned, etc. it is by far the best. Esthetically, this is one "cool looking" device. I really love both the sound and the appearance. Everything is glossy black, and the touch pad control points light-up white when the pad is pressed.
The S5 is easy to set up and get familiar with, and there are controls for almost all options - e.g. touchpad brightness, off time, all of that. FM reception is good compared to the Creative Zen, but almost all that had FM feature were far better than the Creative Zen. Still the S5 sound while listening to FM was great too, but none of the FM capable players had that great of reception indoors of places like shopping centers, etc.. In and around the house reception was great though.
There are no hard buttons, wheels, etc. The menu, channel and volume controls are lighted areas on a flat glossy panel. They are nicely separated and easy to access, and extinguish. It's got a lot of other great features, alarm, one of the nicest and most readable clocks as a screen saver.
I cranked the volume on the built-in speakers and there was no noticeable distortion - very nice, but their small size doesn't afford much bass as one would expect. The speakers make the player a tad thicker than the other players - it's about 1/2 inch thick. Still the sound is very good for being such small speakers. I have found this feature great for listening to music while watching TV or while getting to sleep.
Cons:
The touch button controls don't have any sort of delay sensitivity, so if one is listening to FM or other, just picking up the device or taking it out of the pocket and touching the area of the device where the controls are located can result in the station changing or having the S5 bring up a different menu than desired. Some of the players had the delay whereby if you touch a button you had to touch it again after a short delay. Especially for a touch pad control this should be the norm. It can get pretty annoying, but is something I believe I can deal with and work around. I am planning to write Samsung with this suggestion to add the delay, and maybe they will fix it in a software update someday. It's because of this issue that I couldn't give the S5 5 stars.
Summary:
The S5 is fabulous all around with the exception of the touch pad issue. WiFi, phone and camera all in one would be great. The iPhone would be a good choice if it had an FM receiver, Bluetooth (built in) and I chose to pay the additional associated cost.
Samsung YP-S5JAB mp3 playerJan 18, 2009 This is the greatest mp3 player on the market. I looked it up in Consumer Report that gave it a higher rating than any of the others, including the iPod. After reading several buyers' reviews I was convinced to go with the Samsung YPS5JAB.
It is easy to load and program. It has GREAT sound. The thing that really sold me was the built-in speaker that does not require earphones. This way I can share my music with others, listen to it in the car or while getting dressed without being tied down to wires.
There are several other attractions--bluetooth capability, alarm, sleep-function, video player, picture storage, FM radio receiver and game playing. It has lots of great features that make it all a great purchase!
