No complaints. Standard combo machine.May 29, 2009 Using this on a tv that isn't used much in the basement. But the machine seems pretty standard and it was cheap!
Worst DVD and worst service from SamsungFeb 21, 2009 I bought this DVD player a little over a year ago and it has been fine for what I use it for...just watching movies. Recently, the screen has split into 2 parts therefore it splits the movie in half. When I called technical I was told to send it in for an $80.00 repair plus shipping, of course. That's almost what I paid for it. They said there was nothing I could do to repair it myself and of course it's not under warranty. I am very disenchanted with Samsung products and service and probably will never buy another of their products.

Never has worked quite right, perhaps it's a lemon!Jan 09, 2009 I have had similar problems to the guy who wrote about his before me, except I have not called customer service yet, or even tried to send it back. The unit worked fine at first, and then started to have this problem: kept showing me a menu that said it could not play the DVD...this was any DVD I happened to put into it. It had played them before fine and they all are pristine, no scratches or dirt. Ok, so I unplugged/replugged in the unit and for a time that seemed to reset it; then it played again; well, for awhile... Now I am back to home base; the thing just won't play, either says 'no disc' or the same dark blue menu appears on the screen saying 'cannot play this disc, please check disc'...the unit is not even a year old. I totally regret buying this player. I have a Samsung TV and I love it; thought they would interface perfectly, but I was wrong. I also have a Sony Region 2 player and wish I has bought a Sony Region 1, instead of this piece of junk; my Region 2 plays like a dream, never a problem. Reading the above account of sending it for repairs or replacement, is quite discouraging. I was seriously considering doing so, or just packing it up and taking to the store and demanding my money or even a credit. I bought it on a credit card so someone told me you can demand the store take it back.
Now, just curious to know how the other two posters on here ended up with a good unit. I guess maybe I just got a lemon!

Samsung tunerless DVD and VCRNov 19, 2008 This combination DVD/VCR that I purchased was just as I expected. It was very easy to install onto my TV. I am not a lady who installs all things and I had no problem hooking it to my TV and it is working great and was a super deal on Amazon.

VHS player failed in 6 months - ate tape, not worth repairingSep 16, 2008 Re Samsung DVD V9700/XAA DVD/VCR combo, purchased 2008 Feb., $99, at Circuit City:
We usually played DVDs and only rarely played VHS cassettes on this unit. After only six months it ate a tape. More precisely, suddenly the VHS cassette won't play, rewind, ff, or eject. At power on, it says "HI", and then the door partly opens and closes, then it says "L2". When I push eject, sometimes it tries to eject, and some of those times the door opens partly and closes again. I unplugged and waited but the processor did not reset. Samsung Technical Support representative said "It appears that something else inside the player is malfunctioning. Unfortunately this is not an issue to be resolved via Live Chat. The DVD player needs to be examined by a professional service technician to get it serviced to fix the issue." The thing is out of warranty for labor, and a VCR repairman told me it's at least $40 to get the cassette out and about $80 to repair - not worth it. So buy some other unit!
