don't upgrade the firmwareNov 13, 2009 Samsung finally sent me a CD to upgrade the firmware on my BD-P1500.
Not only didn't the disc upgrade the unit, it corrupted it. It the BluRay player no longer functions, at all.
When I contacted Samsung, reminding them that it was their CD which caused the unit to fail, I got a run-around regarding the warranty of the unit-It was puchased 14 months ago. They would cover the parts, I had to pay for the labor.
When I argued that I didn't do anything to corrupt the unit, the "Executive Customer Service Rep indicated that that was their policy.
I'm now looking for a replacement and it won't be a Samsung unit.
Junk!!!Nov 12, 2009 I owned this item & thank god I purchased it at Walmart!
Well I have owned it for 5 months & it would not play anything dvd or bluray for more then 5 minutes and screen would go blank and the machine would start making the strangest sounds! I was mad I paid $300 for this machine & was originally wanting a Panasonic BD-30 at that time! Well my friend came over and asked you still have your box! I was like yeah well he said as long as it had the Walmart tags still on it that they would take it back with no receipt!
Well I was willing to try what ever because that is sorry to put out a expensive unreliable machine like that! So I returned it & I did not know they came out with a new model BD1590 they did an exchange and also gave me store credit for $120 because the model never recieved a roll back price! I was super happy now!
Well got home watched a BD on the new BD1590 and loved the buttons and the sounds they made on the player front control! It also had a rear cooling fan unlike the bd1500 I thought maybe that was the cause since I was bad at leaving it on overnight!
But anyway I got done watching a new bluray movie & while the credits where still rolling I hit the pop up menu & the movie started skipping like it was the disc!
Checked the disc it was fine & put in a few more movies same thing! Well my g/f told me she tried to play a standard dvd & it would not play! Back to the store & another player same thing & took it back & got the Panasonic BD60 it was even more cheaper then the Panasonic & so I recieved another $35 store credit It was crazy well I love this player a little plain to the eye player wise but the picture was a jump with in itself & others noticed also! More detail, great color!! Im happy with the money I saved $150 back I purchased some new blurays! Thank God I did not buy a Samsung HDTV! I will never buy another Samsung anything because my Samsung cell phone went bad 1 month later!!! Lesson learned
Say Away from this playerNov 09, 2009 I bought this last years black friday for $200 even
Now here are the pros and cons
pros:
Plays DVD and Blu Ray
Cons
Extremly noisey
Fast forward and rewind Is HORRIABLE you stop it where you want it and its soo slow to responded anybody that owns this can vouch for me.. this is the number one reason I say stay away the rewind feature is more like a skip rather then a smooth digital rewind oo did i forget to mention mind broke down couldnt play blu ray no more so i got it repaired and now its been working fine..
I love samsung TVS there awesome yes it was at the time the cheapest blu ray player they had so i got what i paid for but im giving you guys a head up and thats my 2 cents
Samsung Support Leaves Much to be DesiredNov 01, 2009 The Blu-ray player worked great for 8 months, but then I updated the firmware throught the ethernet port and it stopped working. Could not eject a disc that was inside. I contacted Samsung and since it was out of warranty, they refused to fix even though it was their update that messed up the player.
They had me send it to a repair center at which point they told me it would be $165 to fix it. I understand that their may be problems, but I am not the first one to have issues with this player, and thus far Samsung is doing nothing to back up their product. I told Samsung not to fix it, as I know somebody that can replace the damaged components for half the price. They sent it back to me in horrible condition. The front panel had been busted on the corners and the case was bent. They did not package it well when sending it back to me. Currently in touch with Samsung, but would be surprised to get anything out of it.
It is a decent player when it works, but I suggest that you DO NOT update the firmware. Samsung will do nothing to help you out. This player has a lot of bugs as I have read in other reviews.
Pass on this one.

Samsung BD-P1500: a $250 lesson?Oct 29, 2009 I chose this blu-ray player 1)out of faith in its "SAMSUNG" brand and 2)for its great feature sets. What I overlooked were the red flags concerning the BD-P1500s many service issues, many of which revolved around firmware updates and warranty issues.
I plucked the next paragraph nearly verbatim from one of a dozen other user forums I've visited regarding the SAMSUNG BD-P1500), as it described perfectly the countless problems I've experienced from the day the BD-P1500 was unpacked: "The player freezes mid-film. By "freezes", I mean locks up. No stop, no eject, no nothing. I have to turn off the power just to get the disc out. The over portion of attempts it now either doesn't load the disc at all or again "freezes" reading "play" with no image or sound. I hear a repetitive sticatto clicking noise within the machine. If I turn it off I can regain enough function to eject the disc. The firmware is current and the tech had me perform the rest; to no avail. I understand that occasionally a relatively good product line will have a lemon or two...". SAMSUNG does not seem to be addressing the many defective issues with this unit.
I have also experienced lip-synch problems as well as the repeated "freezing" issue. Almost without exception, we have never watched a Blu-Ray disc without interuption or complete failure (that's in the nearly three months we have owned the unit!). Each time I have contacted SAMSUNG support (via their online "Live Help") I've received courteous attention, though ultimately fruitless advice. In almost every case I was prompted to update the firmware (even if I had already updated to the most current version, the same instructions were repeated).
I'm fully versed in the so-called "emerging technology" of Blu-Ray, and I have certainly been patient, both with the player itself and with SAMSUNG support. Patience has not been my allie: My BD-P1500 is currently in a California facility awaiting service. Although the unit was purchased new on 7/27/09 with a full 90 parts and labor warranty, the service facility called to inform me that SAMSUNG was reporting the warranty on Labor had lapsed, and I must pay $69 to have the unit repaired. I have contested the decision and re-faxed my original 7/27 invoice to the service company. Now we will wait and see... SAMSUNG, are you listening? Do you care?
Again, even the best companys can produce an occasional lemon. But given the track record of my own SAMSUNG player, and the many reports of others, I would never purchase this model again, and I would think long and hard before purchasing another SAMSUNG item, be it a Blu-Ray player, HDTV or whatever. Service is the deal breaker in this situation and it is notable that PHILIPS offers a 1 year Limited Parts and Labor warranty on its Blu-Ray players, as does SONY and LG.
Simply put, when the decision boils down to judging quality and service, a 90 warranty doesn't cut it.
