This thing is crapSep 12, 2009 Hard to load. Hard to orginize. Songs load out of sequence(rough when you load groups like Pink Floyd,Marillion, and Styx). Loading pics is a study in computer engeneering. Video? Forget it.
It takes a special program just to down load from you tube!
Want a good MP3 that is easy to use? Buy Creative. I had a 1GB Creative Nano that worked better than this thing.
I bought it on sale, no wonder it was half off!
controls messed upSep 07, 2009 okay i get this thing for 60 bucks. It works fine for a little bit, but the controls are all screwde up. if i press fast forward it will rewind and it will pop up the stupid annoying "do you want to add this to the playlist". it will do the the same for rewind. if i press the menu button it will pause the song and go to to the menu or stop it go to to the menu then go back to the song and restart it. charging is another pain. the night before the long trip its on 2 bars go load it up it starts charging come back the next morning its on zero batteries? its just a waist of money and will brake down. im tired of all these mp3 pieces of crap im getting an ipod or zune i'll pay a hundred bucks for something that will last for few years than pay half the price for something that will last for a month with no problems.
Buyer beware!Aug 28, 2009 I decided to check out the reviews for this while shopping for a replacement MP3 player. I purchased this player at Walmart soon after its release. I paid about $70, which at the time I thought was a good price. I had paid about that for my brothers 2g Sony the year before, by the way the Sony is still going strong and has better battery life than his Samsung P2 8g. My Philips would shut off during songs , it would shut off if you left it in play mode without changing songs, it would shut off when removed from the cable. When it shut off, I would have to find some tiny little pointed object to stick in the tiny hole in order to reach the reset button. If I was lucky I could then turn it back on, if not then I would have to hook it back up and let it charge. It would do this even when showing a full charge. Finally it died, it shut off just after charging and never would turn back on. Also, there is no real shuffle mode. It would only play a short list of songs and never play others. If I scrolled to a certain song it would play it and then go back to its short list. If I skipped a song it would go to the next, play several and then go back to the song I had skipped. If you read the other negative reviews you will notice a trend. It may be a great product for some, but I am someone that has found this product to be defective.
Not bad for the $$-but I still miss my Sansa Clip...Aug 21, 2009 I'm a rather big fan of the average Phillips products...I have a pair of noise cancelling headphones & earbuds and both work really great--especially for the money. I figured with a track record like that, an mp3 player was pretty much a given. We purchased a 4gig player for our daughters birthday a few months back and she seems quite satisfied, so I took the plunge and got one for my wife and I.
Let me say this: I work in radio and listen to music and audio extensively, and MY standards are bit higher than my daughter, so keep that in mind as you read this.
Because my headphones and earbuds sound SO good, I naturally expected the included earbuds with this player to be at least partially acceptable...uh, nope. First, they are a bit large for me and uncomfortable at the least and the sound, while decent, not even CLOSE to my noise cancelling Phillips earbuds which I can endorse highly, btw. I believe I'll be dropping the included earbuds and cannot say they are honestly very good. I have replacements so I suppose I'm fine in that department, but if you do NOT have a backup pair, keep that in mind before your purchase.
I had no problem transferring music from my computer at all. This went off without a hitch. Working in radio I have access to a ridiculous amount of music--yeah, I know, lucky me, but I've had problems in the past with different players, so I was happy to see this was a non-issue.
The color screen in nice--although I simply cannot imagine placing video on it. Maybe if you have great eyesight, it won't be a problem, but call me crazy, I prefer all my video on a regular-sized television. What I REALLY liked however that my Sansa Clip did NOT have was a photo of whatever album each song came from on the screen. Nice touch. I realize Phillips isn't at the cutting edge when it comes to this, but it IS a nice touch for those who like this sort of thing.
The audio quality for the most part is pretty decent...not ground-breaking by any stretch, but good. I recall my Sansa Clip could play the same songs louder, which really came in handy for some of the songs that were recorded at a much lower volume than others. It'd be nice for an mp3 player to come with a built-in audio processor that could make all songs sound pretty equal, but I think we may be a few years away from that technology..oh well.
One thing I really, REALLY liked about my older player was the built-in clip (hence, its name) that make wearing it rather simple...should I want to adhere the Phillips to anything, I have to pay extra for an armband and I haven't found an adaptable clip that you can attach at ALL. A little frustrating, but nothing I can't handle.
As another reviewer had noted, when the player is on 'Shuffle' it really ISN'T a true shuffle at all. After a while you could predict exactly what would come next. NOT my idea of a true shuffle at all.
Other than these issues, I believe for the $$ especially, it isn't without flaws, but IS a good player all things considered.
Thank You!Jul 11, 2009 Great product this is my second one And I love it and i received it a timely fashion thank you!
