 Okay, but not everything I expectedOct 11, 2009
My biggest problem with this car kit is what none of the descriptions tell you. You can't use the FM Modulator without an FM Direct kit or similar adapter. The modulator is too weak to reach you car radio reliably without it. If you're like me, and looking for a way to listen to your XMp3 through your car radio, buy the FM direct kit also.

This is a well designed kit and a snap to install. If you have an aux. jack there's nothing to it. If not buy the XM FM Direct Adapter. The hardest part then is figuring out how to remove the trim around the radio. In newer cars the radio will probably have to be loosened to get access to the antenna. You will still have to use the XM antenna, but the wire is small and usually will go under the window weather stripping. Leave as little wire as possible exposed so it's not snagged by car washes or made to visible to people who are looking for a XM radio via a 5 finger discount.

Amazon provided great service, five stars on that but this is about the product. I had to add the tape deck accessory and this system in that context is very poor. It is a real hastle to set up, wires all over the place and most of the time it doesn't work. I sounded good when it did. Probably I won't use it again although I might try for long trips. I'll probably do without until I get a car with a built-in adapter.

Ordered wrong car kit. My error but it was a tad confusing. Will use the antenna with other XM unit.
