One of the best gift I've ever receivedNov 21, 2009 Works fabulously for all types of citrus zests, grating fresh spices, and I've even used for (very small) chocolate shavings for Tiramisu. I haven't tried this with cheese - for which I generally pull out the old standard grater because I like larger pieces than this product creates. But, then again, if I did buy it for myself, it wouldn't have been for grating cheese. Be careful and pay attention to where your hands are while zesting. I've filed the occasional nail and knuckle.
Perfect!Nov 09, 2009 I am so happy with this zester! I used it for the first time as I was baking last night and the zesting was almost effortless compared to struggling with an old hard cheese grater. I'm very very happy! (and so are my coworkers, who are currently eating the lemon bars.)

I'll never buy grated Parmesan againNov 07, 2009 I bought this grater/zester for two reasons. Firstly, I forgot where I put my other grater and feared I'd accidentally gifted it to someone after a dinner party. Secondly, I absolutely needed to drop some finely grated Parmesan onto a plate of spaghetti with a particularly tasty meat sauce. It seems I'd found myself in an unannounced and unspoken meat sauce competition. This little gizmo helped me raise the bar. I'm still waiting to see who out does me and how.
Yes, it works for other stuff like lemon/orange/whatever zest too. It cleans up fairly easily. It's a good kitchen tool over all.
Almost perfect.Nov 01, 2009 Everything you've heard about this microplane is true. It's razor-sharp and effortlessly glides through a brick of cheese. It zests citrus, grates nutmeg, and shaves chocolate into delicate mounds of powder-fine cocoa-y goodness. It's shiny and lovely and actually stays that way, due to high-quality stainless steel. Unfortunately, I'm taking away a star because every time I use it, I get wads and wads of cheese stuck under the curved back edges (you can see what I mean in the 3rd picture, where the model is awkwardly grating cheese with the plane held upside-down. I actually tried that, and it's absurd). Maybe that doesn't sound like a big deal, but it's a lot of cheese, maybe 1/2 oz, each time! Imagine what I'd waste in a month. So I have to dig the cheese out and it gets smooshed because it's already so finely grated, and when I'm through I end up with something like cheesy Play-Do. And that's not as appealing to me as it might be to say, a 3-year-old.
If I were working for the good people at Microplane, I'd made the plane FLAT. Goodbye, wasted cheese and hello, five stars! Toss in a little plastic clamshell protective case and call it a day. And now I'm off for a nice 4-margarita company lunch. Kevin, hold my calls.
Love it!Oct 30, 2009 I never thought I'd care about a grater but I love this one! I bought it so that I could hold it & grate parmesan cheese over pasta. I was afraid that would be too difficult to do but it works great. It's very easy to hold. The teeth are very sharp and the cheese grates into beautiful little curls. I highly recommend this grater.
It's easy to clean and comes with an acrylic protective cover.
We also bought it for zesting but haven't gotten around to that, yet.
Microplane also makes a box grater that is supposed to be really good but it's pricey. Still, I plan to buy one soon.
