Effective converter but tiny...Oct 26, 2009 Bought this a couple of months ago, it seems to work very well. This area apparently does not have many stations broadcasting locally but I am able to pick up 11 stations nonetheless, 7 very well and 4 PBS stations kinda. The antenna you pair with this box plays a large part in the number of stations you will get in your area, it's hit & miss with antennas. Took me 4 to find the Terk HDTVa, this combo works nice.
The box has no controls, everything is accessed via the remote. If the remote goes bad you're out of luck. Controls via the remote are slow to act but do what they're designed to do. All in all not a bad little unit.
The picture presented for this converter box is misrepresented, it looks nothing like what it's depicted as. Is the pic actually for the LTA-260? If so, Lasonic cheaped out on it. Amazon reports the physical dimensions for the LTA-260 as being 11.4 x 7.5 x 2.3 inches, I was expecting it to be the size of a cable box (or larger). The unit is actually half the size at 7 x 4.25 x 1 inches, the wires want to push it around it's so small. I haven't the vaguest idea what Amazon was measuring, the box it came in? Perhaps Lasonic changed it so drastically it looks nothing like it used to, in which case the pic and dimensions need updating. -kd5-
TV Converter BoxOct 16, 2009 This product was very easy to set up, very user friendly. Box and antenna need to be placed near a window for any kind of decent reception. I would definately recommend this for older tv's like what I have.
Excellent tuner and soundOct 02, 2009 Of the two different DTV converters I purchased, the Lasonic has the best reception. My location is deep fringe and I have an old 190 mile antenna in my attic. I can't get all the stations I would like with this configuration but this box gives me a stable picture and great sound on high power UHF transmissions more than 100 miles away. (Note: The big 3 networks all seem to have extremely low power transmitters and many are on VHF.)
There are some feature downsides. Time is military and is not consistently correct. Channels cannot be added manually, but the channel scan is faster than the other box I have so that is not a huge issue. However, if you manually tune to a channel with no signal, it doesn't "stick" to allow you to try to reposition the antenna. In other words, you must point your antenna to the right spot first then pick it up by scanning. Finally, channels cannot be deleted or skipped, so you have to scan past all those religious, Spanish and kids channels forever.
Program guide is very primitive and only for the current show. The documentation is terrible but all the setup and use is intuitive. Overall, a great little basic box for an old TV.
L. converter box for TVOct 01, 2009 This product exceeds my expectation and I am really satisfied with it. Thank you for your services.
customer service take a flyerSep 24, 2009 i have comcast analog cable, and they started turning the analog channel off. so i got the government coupons and went to amazon.
none of the converters that they sold were $40, so i wound up buying one of these for another $10+. i looked, but didn't see anything about how this box DOES NOT WORK WITH CABLE INPUTS BUT ONLY OVER-THE-AIR ONES.
so i went to amazon to return it, and they said that they wouldn't and that i should go to the manufacturer.
update: lasonic (Andrew Goei) refuses to help me.
