Loved it while it lastedNov 19, 2009 We too suffered from the burned out motor, or some kinda issue internally where the motor tries to spin, but it just makes a horrible squealing sound. So - calling Kitchenaid within the 12 month warranty they instantly advised it was out of Warranty after taking the serial number. Then I argued the fact with them that it should still be covered as it was only purchased within the last 12 months. Had to email them the Amazon Receipt, which was no big deal. A replacement is being sent as we speak.
While it was working, we loved this thing. No - It is not good for trying to blend a smoothie that has ice cubes in it. It just can't break the ice and the ice gets jammed in the blade, which is most likely what caused the issue with ours. But it is awesome for blending soups while still in the cooking pot, plus is very very good for home made Marinara sauce - where you don't need that perfectly smooth texture. Just throw the Tomatoes, Basil, Garlic, Mushrooms, Zucchini and anything else you wanna throw in there in a big pot with some brown sugar and a few cups of water. Then boil it all down and blend it - Perfect Marinara sauce.
Will be happy with the replacement arrives, but unfortunately reading some of the other reviews, this product definitely has some build issues.
Great Hand BlenderNov 04, 2009 I really like this hand blender! It's powerful, easy to clean, and I like the safety feature of holding down the button to run the blender. It doesn't take up a lot of space on my counter, which is why I didn't want a full-sized blender for my kitchen.
Too Bulky And Powerful For My TasteOct 26, 2009 My old hand blender that I bought at Wal-Mart (don't know the brand) worked well for me. That is until it died after about ten years of use. I saw all the positive reviews for this KitchenAid model, so this is the one I bought. To me, it is too big and bulky for one thing. Also, it is so powerful that it keeps pulling itself down to the bottom of the bowl/pan when I use it. It works well, but I would rather have a hand blender like my old one. However, if the bulkiness doesn't bother you, and you want a really powerful hand blender, then maybe you'll like this better than I did. It seems like a quality instrument, just not what I prefer.
KitchenAid Hand BlenderOct 11, 2009 This is a great product by Kitchen Aid. It comes with a clear plastic cup in which you can mix or you can use it in another type container. I love banana nogs, and it is super not to have to pull out the big blender to make a nice, cold frothy banana nog.
Duravle? Time Will Tell. Powerful? Yes!Oct 07, 2009 This is a powerful model. It feels like it should last a long time (I have burned out two cheap ones).
I own a Brun hand blender, but its blades are not sharp enough to puree ice like this Kitchen Aid model. THe Kitchen Aid is everything I hoped for in that department, and more. It has 9 power levels and I think the dual power button is straight and pulse. But if you hold it in there long enough, they all puree. Watch your fingers!
Of course I did not read the instructions (beyond the safety notices); nobody does. So it's nice to have something you can pull out of the box and blam away with. My favorite is frozen bananas and soy milk, which makes a great smoothie or if thicker it's just like ice cream. I add toasted coconut or almonds.
It makes mayonnaise really fast, and Hummus? Yummus!
If you want a no-brainer, this is your model. And I bought the RED, which I got much cheaper than the white or black!
