Awesome!Feb 11, 2009 I was recently in the market for a stereo unit and having been a long time fan of JVC products, discovered the HX-D77 "mini" system. Realistically speaking there isn't anything "mini" about it. This stereo fit exactly where I needed one in both size as well as functionality. Unfortunately it seems to have been discontinued not long after it was released. I stumbled across a used one for sale halfway across the U.S. from me, took a chance, knew it was missing the remote, and I must say the stereos quality more than erased my worries. Craftmanship is amazing, sound quality is unbeatable. I needed this system for an analog setup I'm trying to achieve out of being dis-satisfied with the newer "HD" setup. Funny how we're going backwards in technology instead of forward, and trust me, this stereo is the best of the best in the good 'ole days of electronics.
BIG Sound...questionable appearance?Dec 27, 2008 The JVC HX-D77 packs a whole load of power into a small package. As the previous owner of an MX-J700, I was very pleasantly surprised...
From the outside, the HX-D77 looks pretty outlandish compared to other mini systems on the market, but once you power this thing-up you will forget all about appearances.
For a mini-system, sound from the main speakers is crisp and clear. The highs are crystal clear, mids are well developed, and the bass is fantastic!
The narrow main tower is a nice touch as well. Most mini-systems have a rather large control unit, but JVC maximized space and kept the control tower to a nice narrow size. The display is bright and easy to read, controls are intuitive, and the red lighting looks sweet. Definitely a nice change seeing as though the world is obsessed with blue-lit electronics...
Dual duty as a DVD player seems nice, albeit I have not tried it yet...
Conclusion? It may be more expensive and look far more ridiculous than other mini-systems on the market, but if you want the biggest sound from a mini-system that you can truly feel, then look no further!
More Bang for your buckDec 27, 2008 This is a great product. It sounds great on cds or dvds. Read the manual before you use the product and it will make sense of the remote. This is the third JVC stereo I have had and the sound is better then any other brands I have heard. My only complaint is the subwoofer never completely turns off so if you live in apartment with really thin walls turn this down to low so the neighbors don't complain.
jvc hx-D77 540- WATT DVD MINI SYSTEMSep 18, 2008 THIS WAS A VERY GOOD PURCHASE FOR ME,AND IT ARRIVED AT A TIMELY FASHION THANK YOU VERY MUCH
I wish there were more competitionSep 10, 2008 I originally purchased a different JVC model, not knowing that it had DVD capability. When I learned that it did and set it up to a TV, I was very pleased with all this system offered - 5 disc changer, aux input, video out, great sound, MP3 capability, etc.
Unfortunately my original system suffered some sort of internal error after 2 years, and I was unable to get a resolution through tech support. I was unimpressed with the support I got, which lead to a referral to a service center, but when I called them, I ended up in telephone system limbo...
After being without my system for some time, I missed it enough that I went in search of a system with similar capabilities, but I was unable to find many options that handled not only audio, but also video within the price range. So I sucked it up and purchased a new model, very similar to my original model. I'm still hoping to get the old one fixed and then have two, but in the meantime although I'm bitter with my support issue, I'm glad to have a working system back in place. I don't know why other manufacturers aren't successful in developing models with similar capabilities (again, the DVD being a major difference). I guess not many people make use of the DVD feature...
