5Worth the money!Mar 11, 2010
This is the first high quality knife set I have bought for myself. I was a little hesitant at first about whether or not I should fork out the cash on a knife set. Well they arrived on time and I began to unpack and washing them up as recommended. After using these knives for the first time I have to admit... I LOVE THIS SET! I never would even imagine enjoying a kitchen tool but this one I do. Don't be afraid to buy this set of knives they are worth every penny!

5Love the Henckels Twin Pro-S SetOct 29, 2009
I researched knife sets for quite a while trying to decide what kind of knives I wanted. I decided I wanted a quality forged set. The J.A. Henckels Twin Pro S set got me where I wanted to go. For the past 10 years I have used a not-so-good knife set I received as a gift. This Henckels set is light years better then my old set which was made in China. I love the quality of German-made products. I've now used every knife in this set and they all are great. The santuko knife is probably my all-around favorite. The utility knife makes a good bread knife and the chef's knife is great for cutting meat or about anything else. The knifes are nicely weighted and balanced and very sharp. I added a set of Henckels Eversharp steak knives (they are a little cheaper but still look great). I also added a Henckels Twin Pro S carving knife and fork set (because Thanksgiving is coming up) - I told my wife I am done buying knives now! Bottom line, if you want good knives you have to pay a little more, and you can't beat these knives for the price.

5Once you go Henckles, you never go back! Feb 09, 2009
I started out with regular Henckles, and I quickly fell in love. Cyber Monday came after Black Friday, and I was able to get these for a great price, I nabbed them the first chance I got.
Immediately, I was very impressed by the quality of the knifes... However, for some reason I find the large chef knife least favorable but the rest of the knives absolutely fantastic to work with. The balance is good, and the sharpness is without comparison. I clean and dry my knives immediately after each session, and I never put them in the washer. I do sharpen them regularly but only if I absolutely feel the need to. This is definately an investment worth making. I've tried other brand of premium knives such as Wusthof... But I still think you get the most bang out of your buck with Henckles for their quality and price.
One time I was at a friend's house helping out in the kitchen and used one of their Caphalon knives... MAN! I couldn't believe it! It was so dull and hard to handle in comparison to the Henckles. Once you go Henckles, you never go back!

5Quality explains Henckel's hallmark reputationDec 14, 2008
Having worked w/a Henckel (person) and now having the pleasure of enjoying the indisputable superior quality of Henckel cutlery, I can enthusiastically and honestly say I know why these are the 'cadillac' of cutlery. Their balance, blade quality, easily kept sharpened w/the sharpening steel, combine to make any kitchen task an easy pleasure. For the first time, my arthritic fingers have enough room w/o pinchng to USE kitchen shears. I highly recommend this product to anyone considering a truly quality essenetial addition to any kitchen.

4Excellent knives, not the best collection.Jan 02, 2007
I had my eye on the Henckel Pro "S" 18-piece block set for some time, but with the price usually around $500 I wasn't expecting to get it for some time. This Christmas, my parents surprised me with this 8-piece set.

The knives themselves are top quality and razor sharp. My mother said she was actually frightened to use them herself, they are so sharp. They make short work of meats and vegetables, clean up easily and are very comfortable to handle with enough weight to feel substantial but not heavy.

The set includes two paring knives, a 5" serrated knife, 5" hollow-ground santoku and 8" chef's knife, plus shears, honing steel and the block. Overall, this is a fairly disappointing collection of blades... I'd gladly trade the parers for the 7" santoku, or another more versatile knife... I just don't have that great a need for a 2 3/4" paring knife.

The block is well-constructed, as you would expect, but the disappointing thing about it was that it does not have a slot for the Pro "S" line's 6" cleaver, which I already have. As a result I looked around and found the Henckels 19-slot "Super Block" which has the slots for 8 steak knives, 8 knives of varying sizes, shears, honing steel and cleaver. Amazon lists this item as shipping from J&R Music World, but if you buy directly from that vendor, they offer free shipping at the same price on the block.

If you are looking for an entry-level set of high-quality professional-grade knives, this is a good set. If you have particular needs like mine, pay careful attention to the details of what is being offered. Overall, for quality of product, I would give this item 5 stars, but I took one star away for the fact that the block didn't have the cleaver slot (there are enough slots here that a wide slot for a cleaver shouldn't have been excluded) and for the selection of included knives. I mostly use the Santoku knife and don't really need a parer, much less two of them. Perhaps the 4-star rating is a bit unfair considering I could have specified and gotten a different set, but I'm rating what I got based on what I was hoping for. The less-than-perfect rating is not a reflection of the quality of the product at all.
