Hunter humidifierDec 01, 2008 I just purchased my second Hunter Carefree Humidifier. The first one lasted 7 years. It had a lot of white buildup and when I cleaned it this year it didn't work when I put it back together. Not having to replace the filter is a big plus. I had hoped Hunter would put an opening in the top of the tank so that it could be refilled without removing it and flipping it over, but there isn't one. The tank is heavy after filling and is awkward to flip over to reach the handle. The unit is not quiet. The high setting is ever noisier on this new unit than on the older one; the lower setting is not too noisy; the unit gurgles as water is being taken in. I didn't need the night light, which is a bright blue. Regardless of these problems, I couldn't find another unit that sounded better overall for my bedroom at night. For the most part, I'm pleased with it.

But where is humidity?Nov 23, 2008 I have a newer one with LCD display but the same design with PermaWick filter.
Compared to my hot steam humidifier this one produces only 1/4 to 1/3 of the vapor when running on low. I can't have it run on high due to the excessive noise it makes in high.
Even on low the noise is harder from me to tolerate compared to my hot steam humidifier.
It will be returned.

Bad FanNov 12, 2008 The fan started to make a loud kicking sound within a day of use. Returned and got a new one and the fan started to make the same sound with in 2 days of use. This is not a durable unit. I am going back to ultrasonic with ion exchange cartridge.

Carefree, yes, but use a little common sense pleaseSep 10, 2008 Plastic parts are anitmicrobial, but you do have to rinse it out after each fill, because we don't know what is REALLY in our water. Parts go in the dishwasher and others just need a damp rag now & then. It is the best I'v had and I run it every day for the winter months. Im on my second one now & hope to be able to purchase another one in a couple of years,if this one konks out. It is worth the price! I'm much healthier with it!

Hunter 33252 CareFree Humidifier Plus with Exclusive Nite Glo Night Light Apr 20, 2008 Recently had a severe URI and chest congestion (age 80). At 10 p.m., I called my grandson, who has three youngsters, and asked if he had a humidifier I could borrow, as I was all stuffed up and couldn't breathe very well through my nose, and was coughing. He brought over a Hunter humidifier, which he has used frequently for 8-10 years for his kiddies illnesses, and set it up. Shortly, withing minutes, my symptoms improved. I asked him to order me one. When it came (from Amazon) he brought it over, set it up, and took his home with him. Ours has run 24 hrs a day ever since, excepting a short time to clean the unit with vinegar solution. We are well now, but my wife got the same type URI a few days later. Both my wife and I breathe better running it all the time, as we heat with propane stoves that dry out the air. I ordered another Hunter from Amazon, and I guess this is the one they want me to review. The Blakely's call it "great." One is in the living room where the stove is, and the other in the bedroom.
