1Slow response; freezes up; bad program guideJan 10, 2009
I didn't have high expectations for any digital converter, but after using the Insight box on a relative's television I was blown away with how poor this GE box actually is.

Very slow response time when changing channels. The box freezes about once a week and I have to unplug it to get it going again. And, after seeing the integration of the program guide(what shows are coming up) on the Insight box, this one is not flexible enough. You have 2 options. 1 the guide can be the whole screen, or 2 the guide can be a mini box on one side. BUT, I have 2 GE converters, and I am unable to switch back to the mini guide after selecting the large guide initially. Frustrating. Also, once you select the guide (in the mini guide version) you cannot change channels. On the Insight box you can view the guide, then view other guide information on other channels (while still viewing the show you're watching), that just isn't possible on the GE.

Again, I can only compare to the Insight version, but I would recommend that brand over this.

2Disappointing, considering the brandNov 23, 2008
I bought this assuming the brand would be better than most of the names I'd never heard of. Without creating a long review: the good side is that it does what it's supposed to--convert digital to analog. The downside is that the channels change slower than any digital i've seen, the interface is less than intuitive, and does not even have an option to allow the user to do what the average user should expect: pick the channels you want available. What we ended up with was about 25 channels half of which we don't watch (spanish or chinese) and can't skip, and a slow device to boot(about 3-4 seconds after you change channels). i'll be buying a diferent one, and donating this one to goodwill.

3Not Bad, But I Won't Be Buying A Second OneOct 20, 2008
Nice-looking space-saving design. Easy to set up. Nice picture. Nice sound. I would have given it four stars if it didn't have such poor on-screen displays (my old TV's and VCR's on-screen displays are much easier on the eyes). Digital broadcast is a great improvement over analog. My old RCA indoor antenna works perfectly with it. But if the quality of the on-screen displays is important to you, then you should shop around. I won't be buying a second one.
