Dyanmat retro fit into a '69 CorvetteAug 06, 2009
My project was to replace the rear carpeting in my '69 Corvette coupe. The front carpets were replaced about 5 years ago at which time I used another thermal barrier product which was state of the art. I can't remember the name of the product but it consisted of a metallic layer bonded to to a plastic air cell layer. This product work quite well as a heat barrier but was not all that good as a sound barrier. After purcahsing the new rear carpet set I discovered Dyanamat through friends and after talking to professional car restorer. I am very pleased with Dynamat as both a sound and heat barrier. The install in a Corvette was a bit of work as the Dynamat must be cut in to complex shapes to cover the odd contours in the car. So even though the interior of a Corvette is small the amount of Dyanmat that is required is the same as a larger vehicle. After cutting the complex shapes there is a larger amount of wastage unless you want to cut it up smaller and "puzzle" it together. Bear in mind that the "trunk" of Corvette is actually part of the interior. Over all installing Dyanmat into this type of vehicle is well worthwhile even thought it is not considered a stock restoration. The results and the benefits are far superior in terms of performance. AS for the cost, it is a not a factor as the cost of the stock sound barrier from a restoration source is the same as the DYnamat.

Let me just start by saying all u need is the wedge kit or speaker kit there both under $25. i had the same polk audio speakers and put this dynamat in and yes bass is more responsive and yes no rattle at all nice product.My buddy did his whole door panels and they sound exactly the same as mine.Overall very easy to install i recommend to anyone who cares abot the quality of sound in there vehicile.

This has a lot of uses beyond car applications. I used a sheet of it on the drywall behind in-wall speakers to cut the amount of sound radiating through the back wall and tighten the sound. I used a sheet of it inside a computer case, to eliminate a tinny rattle that came from the case vibration while it was on. You can even put pieces of it on the inside of washing machine or dryer panels to make them quieter.
It does have one drawback, and that's the fact that once you stick it on something, you will not be able to get it off without making a big mess. It is essentially tar with a foil outer cover, and trying to get it off just leaves a bunch of sticky tar behind. So, choose the place you want it carefully before sticking it down!

This product is made for automotive uses, but I use it to quiet down my room air conditioners. Most of the newer units are made with very efficient styrofoam insulation that does not deaden sound very well. Applying dynamat to the barrier between the inside and outside of the unit makes a huge difference. It ought to be great for your car!
