519 years and going strong...Nov 19, 2009
What more can I say, we have used this daily for 19 years. Still works great, no big scratches or chips in the plastic, no damage or build up and we don't even clean the inside more than every few years. It's out lasted a refridgerator, stove, dishwasher and is going head to head with a dual lit English made toaster. I prefer the squat proportions for ease of use under the cabinets. Highly recommend this little kettle!!

43rd year and happy!Oct 17, 2009
I'm about to buy a new water kettle as a gift and was looking at the various reviews. I realized that the 'leading' negative review for this kettle was about it not lasting very long. In fact, I've had mine over 3 years now and it's still going strong. I also particularly like the stainless steel over plastic. It's well-made, stylish, cleans easily, and heats water really fast. I've decided on this one again.

1Incredibly Disappointed!!Oct 12, 2009
My last electric kettle was a Krups stainless steel which I loved and had for *7* years! I know that life expectancy of these electric kettles is not forever (eventually the element burns out) but I would hope that you get at least 5 years!!! I loved the shape of the Krups but when I went to buy a new one, did not like any of the "new" Krups models so I then found the Cuisinart model and it was very similar to the original Krups shape so I was happy with this alternative. It worked fine pretty much most of the time, though every now and again it would not shut itself off when it came to a boil. But I could live with this (though I was not too confident about leaving the room)but I was so surprised and truly annoyed when it just stopped working last week and surprise, surprise, I worked out that I have had it for exactly a year and a half (as other reviewers have attested too, regarding life expectancy).

I am looking at other electric kettles now but before I do I think I will contact Cuisinart and see what they say.

I do not recommend this kettle. I would recommend going with Krups if you like the look of their models.

1Simple, useful kettle ruined by cheap partsOct 08, 2009
I bought this kettle because, out of the dozen or so I looked at, it had the fewest plastic parts inside. I have several Cuisinart products that have stood up quite well.

Sadly, after about two years of use, I experienced the product failure that so many reviewers describe--one day, the kettle just would not turn on. Curious as to what the problem was, I disassembled the base of the kettle. I could not believe how flimsy the electrical contacts were! I believe that the simple act of picking up and putting down the kettle for normal use actually bent the contacts inside the base to the point that they don't connect to transfer current. I fiddle with them as best I could to get them back into position, and now the kettle goes on, then goes off, then goes on again, never reaching full boil.

It is a shame that such a promising product is made worthless through the use of cheap parts. Another dollar or two for decent contacts might have prolonged the life of this kettle by an order of magnitude.

The Cuisinart name is dead to me now. Avoid this product, not worth the money.

5Great kitchen additionSep 05, 2009
I've had my kettle for several years. Although I don't use it every day, I use it quite often and find it to be a useful and reliable addition to my kitchen. I used to heat water for tea, cup-a-soup, jello, etc in the the microwave, but I now prefer to use my kettle instead.

If you live in a hard water area, you will get some mineral build-up in the pot. Boiling water with some white vinegar in it will remove the deposits quite easily, as will any number of commercial products made for that purpose.

I received my kettle as a gift and, although I probably wouldn't have thought to buy one myself, I now wonder why they aren't more popular in the US. It's great to have.
