Don't buy this grinderNov 19, 2009 I have used the grinder about five times now, and I have discovered a new problem every time I've used it. The first time, I tried a small amount of beans, and the grind consistency was horrible - some very fine pieces mixed with large chunks. No matter how many times I continued to grind, it didn't improve. So the second time, I tried filling the cup to the "max" line. When I ground the coffee this time, it spilled over the edges of the cup and ended up all over the place. So now I only fill it about halfway, and that seems to work ok, although the grind consistency is still terrible. The third time I used it, I noticed that the contact in the lid is starting to rust. The book says that all removable parts are dishwasher safe in the top rack. Apparently they aren't water-safe, however. The fourth time I used it, I started to notice dishwasher soap inside the clear plastic on the front (where you can't get to it to clean it). Again, problems with the term "dishwasher safe." I guess it's safe as long as you don't mind soap residue on your appliances. The fifth time was the kicker. I ground my coffee, then went to remove the cup, and it was stuck. It unlocked, but the blade seemed to be somehow suctioned onto the base, and no amount of tugging and pulling could get it off. After going online and reading that many other people have had the same problem, I called Cuisinart customer service. They tried to troubleshoot but didn't seem to be aware of this problem. I received this grinder as a gift and didn't use it for about a year, so it is more than 18 months old now on my fifth use, which means it's out of warranty. So Cuisinart didn't care that it's defective and that I've only used it 5 times. They said I could buy a new one. Right, like I'd buy another one. I finally managed to remove the cup by putting ice cubes inside to loosen up whatever was stuck, so I can still use the grinder, but the benefit of being able to remove the cup and store it in the refrigerator is gone.
DO NOT BUY THIS GRINDER. IT IS DEFECTIVE, AND CUISINART DOESN'T CARE!!
Worst Coffee Grinder I Have Ever UsedNov 17, 2009 I bought this thinking it would be compact, less mess and easy to measure. It's really none of those. The biggest problem is that it grinds so unevenly you almost can't use the coffee. I found that the bottom of the cup had incredibly fine grounds while the upper layer had huge chunks. And the grounds went everywhere. They fell through the bottom of the cup. This is not worth the money at all.
if you are looking for durability don't buyNov 15, 2009 This grinder performs efficiently, it grinds a cup of beans fairly quickly, though you have to manually monitor the grind to get the size you want. It has nice user controls and is easy to operate and clean. I was very happy with it while is was working.
Unfortunately, it appears that the motor is severely under-specified for the application and the unit stops working fairly quickly. Mine lasted for about 2 months and about 4 pounds of coffee. So even though Cuisinart did a really great job of design I'll most likely never buy another Cuisinart branded product.
I guess this goes straight to the landfill, though the box is recyclable.
Good for me, but I can understand the negative reviewsNov 12, 2009 1. I really like this coffee grinder, but I admit that I'm not a hardcore coffee expert. I like this unit because you can easily clean it, it's very easy to get the grinds into another holder etc... Thus for myself, it's much better than the all in one traditional coffee grinders (I've always found those hard to clean, use etc...).
2. In terms of the negative comments of uneven grind, inability to properly grind small small batches--> they're true. The smaller the batch, the grind is definitely uneven, definitely on the coarse side. The more volume you grind, the consistency does improve. However, for me this isn't a problem since I always brew my coffee via the French Press (ie I use a coarse grind). But for those who require a fine grind, this unit is probably not for you.
Did not lastNov 03, 2009 I bought this a few months ago, decent enough, not too loud, then last week the blade came off (as mentioned in other reviews)and you can't put it back, its broken!
So its an expensive gadget just for a few months. Not worth it at all!
Now I am shopping for a different brand.
