I purchased this product on the recommedation of an ADS techsupport person. He guaranteed me it worked under Vista. Well the hardware does but the MuVee software doesnt. There is no way to capture anything without the software. When contacted again, they indicated that they did not know when they would have updated software for this product.

This was my first converter device that I've used, so I can't compare it to anything else. I needed something relatively cheap to allow me to record my home videos from VHS into digital format.
Installation was no sweat. I used it to interface the composite out from my VCR to my PC's USB input. All cabling that I needed was included.
The software that comes with this unit is junk. It has no useful configuration options, and when I used it to digitize my home videos, they came in very dark. I had to start over using an alternate software package that did a much better job. I had found a deal on Magix CD on Dvd that was free after rebate, so I didn't end up spending extra.
If you can't or don't want to purchase separate software, I would not buy this unit. If you already have software to use, you should be ok with this unit.

This is the fastest and easiest way from any video source (TV or camcorder) to a file in a computer. Picture quality and sound good. This was always what I wanted. Use carefully, the unit may crack under excessive force, especially while plugging in the cords.

I bought this for a friend who had never worked with digital video. He had a bunch of 8mm tapes that he wanted to archive onto DVD, but no way to get the video into his computer. I work with video, and had plenty of suggestions for him, but he wanted something easy. Enter the ADS Video Express.
I was skeptical of the product because it was so cheap and it used USB instead of FireWire, but he loves the product and has had zero problems. The digitized video is clean and smooth. He uses it with Windows movie maker, and when he digitizes an 8mm tape, it even detects the scenes, so he gets separate clips for every part of his video. After I told him everything else he could use it for, he was amazed--digitizing TV, VHS, some DVDs, and he can even hook up his 8mm camera and use it as a live webcam!
I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking at it.
